Scotts seed, mulch and fertilizer product not working

I have large areas of dead grass. I applied the Scotts product that contains the seed, mulch and fertilizer, however weeds are growing faster than any grass has a chance to.

Hi Rose,

It's unfortunate, but weeds and grass like to grow in the same areas.

To increase the chance for grass to grow in an area, weeds must be controlled. The problem with that is that weed killers will affect grass seed germination, so you can't plant new grass and apply weed control simultaneously.

If you are growing fescue or blue grass, clear out unwanted weeds now and replant those grass seeds in September. Those grasses will develop over the winter and when spring arrives, the new grass will be resilient to selective herbicides, like Weed-B-Gon.

Apply weed control now, wait 4 to 6 weeks and apply more EZ Seed, or any other seed product you choose, and keep it watered. Fall is the right time to plant cool season grasses.

Thanks for asking, welcome to The Community!!!
