Sealant for concrete?

I concreted my basement floor (to cover old broken tiles) in preparation for laying new 12" vinyl tile but the concrete is flaking/breaking. Should I use a sealant then, and what kind?

Hey DebTacoBelly.

Did you use concrete to level the floor and if so how thick did you put it?

Concrete does not work well as a leveler. It works best when at least 2 inches thick. Anything thinner can crack or flake in your case. Typically a Floor Leveler would be the best option. It can be put on thinner and multiple applications can be made to build up places without the threat of flaking or cracking.

If you used concrete then it will continue to chip and this will prevent it from being sealed.
