Shining a Light on Autism Awareness

Amerelle Autism Speaks LED Night Light

Every April is a nationwide awareness for autism. And we at The Home Depot have taken an initiative to let our customers know about this disorder.

As you may or may not know, Autism is a blanket term used to describe various developmental brain disorders.

Since it is considered a complex disorder, until recently it was rather difficult to categorize, let alone prevent and treat this disease. While I won't get into the specifics of it here, an estimated 1 in 88 children in the United States has been diagnosed with autism in one form or another.

So to keep this disease to the fore front of the public, The Home Depot has partnered with Autism Speaks, the world's largest autism science and advocacy organization for the 6th year in a row.

We are partnering with them by way of the Light it Up Blue Initiative, a campaign designed to bring awareness to Autism. This is just another great step our company has taken to help our community, and ultimately...each other.

In fact, all around the world has seen buildings and even archaeological wonders such as Petra in Jordan illuminate blue for this month. To view this amazing program and to learn about ways to light up your home blue, please click here

By selling blue-colored light bulbs and an Autism Awareness Night Light (linked/shown below), a portion of each sell of these items will go to Autism Speaks.

In turn, that money will go towards funding research, advocacy, family services, and awareness for families and their loved ones coping with this disorder.

You can do your part simply by walking into your local Home Depot and picking up these special light bulbs and night light.

While April 2nd was World Autism Awareness Day, the rest of April is still designated as awareness too.

Most Home Depot stores should have their light bulbs for Autism Awareness on stack outs merchandised in the light bulb aisle. Look for the 2 products in the stores below, so you can contribute to a worthy cause!

60-Watt Equivalent Blue A19 Nondimmable Autism Speaks LED Light Bulb

Philips 60-Watt Equivalent Blue A19 Nondimmable Autism Speaks LED Light Bulb

This is an updated version of our now defunct incandescent version. Since it's LED based, it will last longer and let everyone know you are aware of Autism.

It is non-dimmable, but you can place it in essentially any fixture indoor and in some enclosed fixtures outside your home.

Autism Speaks LED Night Light

The other item we carry where proceeds go to Autism Speaks is the night light shown above.

It has a built-in photocell that turns on when its dark, so it saves you energy and gives light in darkened areas. This makes it a great choice for hallways and rooms that have little to no lighting sources.

And just like its LED light bulb counterpart, a portion of each sale will go to Autism Speaks to fund research and family services.

Although autism is something that more people are grasping even if it isn't directly involved in their lives, this program is designed to bring awareness and to help fund an ultimate cure for it.

Stop by your local Home Depot store today and pick up these items if you'd like to contribute!
