I have 2 Hampton Bay ceiling fans. The chain is stuck and won't move. The fans work perfectly, I just can't change the speed???

Hi EmilyT

I am afraid the switch is most likely broken. You may be able to purchase a new switch from Hampton Bay.

Try contacting them at 1-800-654-0688 or 1-800-527-0313, you will need your fans model and serial numbers.

These can be found on the fans motor housing.

Hi emilyt!

The fan motor switch looks like this.

It is located under the fan motor shroud.

Initially, you'll remove the fan blades and unscrew the retaining nut which holds the switch to the shroud.

The shroud probably has several more screws that hold it in place.

Once these are removed, the shroud will lower and expose the switch and other wiring.

Use micro-wire nuts to attach the new switch following the wire colors from the switch you remove.

Test the switch carefully before re-installing the shroud and blades.

As with all electrical repairs, turn off the breaker before beginning.

And keep your hands clear of moving parts.

Your local Electrical Associate can show you this replacement switch.
