Sump Pump Testing

Our previous sump pump had an electrical power outage and broke so we ended up having to get a new sump pump. Is there anyway we can test the sump pump so that we know it was installed and is working properly?

Hi lolagasper,

Here is a simple way to test your sump pump.

(1) make sure the pumps electrical circuit is working, check your fuse box or breaker panel for any burnt out fuses, or tripped breakers.

(2) Locate the float on the sump pump, if you can easily reach it, lift it up, this will  trigger the pump to operate as it
simulates water entering the pump chamber. The pump should start. If you can't reach the float, pour water into the chamber or turn on a faucet in the house which will send water to the pump.

(3) If the chamber is full of water and the pump still doesn't start, then look for any lose wires or debris that may be causing the pump to not start.

(4) if you have tried all of these remedies with no results, then you will have to call a plumber to check it out further.
