T12 to T8 Ballast

Replacing a very old t12 ballast (two yellow, two blue, two red, black and white cables) to a T8 ballast (two blue, one red, black and white cables). Any suggestions on how to rewire due to the two extra yellow and one extra red cables?

Hello mhincapi.  Welcome to the Community!

On the front of a ballast you will find 2 important bits of information.
First will be the number, type and size of the bulbs the ballast will drive, and second will be the wiring diagram showing how the bulbs are to be connected.

The new ballast must have listed both the number and type of bulbs you plan to use in your old fixture.

As far as wiring goes, black and white are always the line in voltage to the ballast from the electrical box.  The other colors which go to the bulbs are shown on the diagram, and you may need to splice or cap off wires in order to make it work with your existing fixture.

If you need more help with this, please provide the specifics on the number and type of bulbs you are using, as well as the brand and model of ballast you have purchased.

Chris.
