Terminating a wire

What's the best method to cap/terminate a wire no longer in use, but still hot.

I have switched the fuse off, but still intend to cap the wire inside a wall.

Thanks

Isolate and switch off wherever possible then terminate into a termination block to ensure it cant do anything. I did something similar after replacing a dimmer switch recently

Wires can only be terminated in junction boxes, even if you have turned off the breaker.  If you want to abandon the wire in the wall, then it needs to be disconnected from the breaker and capped or pulled completely out of the panel.
