Three Season Room - Wall Material - Dry Wall or Plywood

Hi There,

I live in Chicago where the winters are cold and the summers can be hot and humid.

I am renovating my three season room.  The only heat source will be an electric heater. I will have a room air conditioner for the summer.

I am trying to decide if I should use drywall or plywood for my wall covering.  I plan on painting the walls.  I think that the walls would look better with drywall, but I am concerned about cracking due to the change in temperatures throughout the year.

I was told that I could use plywood, but I am also being told that the seams will show through and that I will need to hide the seams by adding wood which will make parts of my wall look boxy.

What is the best option for the wall material of a three season room?

Hi mcgharty,

Drywall is the way to go, it's less expensive and easier to install and repair than plywood. If properly maintained it will not be a problem in your three season room. Be sure to use good quality insulation in the walls to retain the heat in winter and keep it cool in summer.
