Tinting Paint Darker

I purchased Glidden's Tudor Rose paint yesterday. I finished trimming the room, but I think the color is a a little too bright for the room. I'm wondering if it's possible to get it tinted closer to the Powdered Petals color by Glidden. My husband doesn't think Home Depot will re-tint paint anymore though. Anyone have any idea if they still do this?

Hello Scritch and welcome to the Community.

Each paint color has a specific formula of color tints to make that color.  The paint specialist at your local Home Depot may be able to add a little more tint but it would not be guaranteed.  If you want the color Powdered Petals you should have them mix that formula.  If you are not sure that color is exactly what you want, I suggest you buy one of the 8 oz. testers to try it on your walls first.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Once you have used the paint, it is not wise to retint the paint. No matter the base the color is mixed in, it will only hold a finite amount of tint. Once you've removed paint from the can through use, there's no way to determine how much tint you can safely add to change a base. A white base may only hold about 2oz. a medium base 8-10, a deep base 10-14. Depends on the brand.
