Tiny Junction Box

Looking to replace an old chandelier that's hanging from a support beam.  The junction box is 3 and 3/8 in, almost the same exact width of the support beam.  The junction box is not in the beam, it sits outside of it.  The plate that would go over the junction box is wider than the beam, and that doesn't look good. What you see in the pic is what is up there currently.   Any suggestions?

That's a tricky one because you need the junction box.  The only thing I've seen done in situations like that is to make the beam thicker (wider) by adding blocks of wood on either side.  The block can be cut with curves or angles to pretty things up a bit.

Is there any attic space above the ceiling?
