How do I to get rid of chickweed, crabgrass and hairy bittercress without killing my lawn grass?

Hi Nomes,

The Home Depot offers selective herbicides from Bayer Advanced, Spectracide, Vigoro, Ortho and other manufacturers that utilize a combination of chemicals to control broad leaf weeds without harming your lawn.

Some grasses are more resilient than others to the 2-4,D based chemicals, so read the label for proper application and restrictions. Know what kind of grass it is that you want to keep.

Thanks Travis, apparently the landlord says the lawn grass is Fescue grass. Is there a particular weed killer that is sensitive enough not to kill existing grass.?

Fescue is particularity resilient to the 2-4,D that is the predominate chemical in most of the broad leaf weed killers.

The Weed-B-Gon formula contains over 6% 2-4,D while Spectracide has less concentration of the same chemical.

Your fescue is quite tolerant of the chemical make up in any of these competing brands, so spray away at those weeds.

Apply to the grass when no rain is expected for two days. Since the chemicals enter the weeds through their foliage, allow them to grow before you spray, then mow them after two days have passed.
