Welcome to our community Jasonjustin!

Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you are having problems with your Rust-Oleum Cabinet Transformation kit top coat.

I have called Rust-Oleum about your question. They recommended using the Varathane Polyurethane in a satin finish.

I would encourage you to get in touch with the customer service department at Rust-Oleum concerning the issues that you have experienced.
Here is their customer service phone number: (888) 577-8459

If you have any more questions, please let us know!

Here's another approach jasonjustin!

The topcoat included in the Transformation kit is water-based polyurethane.

When instructing faux finishing, I'm often asked, "Should I add a protective clear coat?"

Most often, I discourage adding a clear coat ... if their goal is to "age" the piece.

Clear coats typically add sheen and shiny pieces often appear new as opposed to aged.

So, I would encourage you to consider your goal and then decide whether you need a clear coat.

You can add protection without adding sheen if you choose Varathane Matte Polyurethane.
A quart should be plenty for your project.
