Thanks for your question and welcome to the community!


The rule of notched trowels is the smaller the tiles, the smaller the ones to use for proper installation.


If you are installing your subway tiles on a wall or vertical surface, then you'll need a v-notch trowel.


Shown below, this trowel gives extra mortar effectively versus the square tooth types.



However, if these tiles are rated for the floor and will be installed there, opt for a small square tooth notched trowel, in a 1/4" size.
