Scooba_barbie,

A dedicated prime such as Glidden's  Gripper or Behr's NO.75 Primer would be well advised over the pseudo wallpaper and wood paneling found in manufactured housing. These primers will get maximum adhesion over the slick plastic surface of these walls. If you have the primer tinted toward your finish color, you can probably get by with only one finish coat.

Hope this has helped.

It may seem crazy but you have to put sandpaper onto wall because it is important to make the surface rough for the paint to adhere to slick surface. Wash the wallboard clean, carefully look over the available primers for those that are for painting over vinyl. Two coats should be enough, let it dry thoroughly before you start to put the actual paint on it. Once the first coat dries, then get ready to apply the second coat.

Hello Scooba_Barbie!

Zinsser 123 is a water-based primer specifically designed for application over vinyl.

If your wall has wallpaper, you'll need to switch to Zinsser Cover Stain, an oil-based primer.

CAUTION:

Sandpaper will shred wallpaper and create a hard-to-manage mess.

DO NOT use sandpaper directly on wallpaper.
