What type of drill bit should I use to drill into a smooth exterior stucco wall?

Dear Sirs,

We have smooth exterior stucco walls at our house.  I want to mount some brass numbers on our exterior wall to display our house number.  Should I use masonry bits or wood bits?  Should I take any precautions to prevent cracks?  Should I use anchors?  And if so, any specific type of anchor?

Thanks for any advice,

Manny

For the few holes you'll need you could use an ordinary twist drill bit.  Drilling into the masonry will probably ruin the bit but they're pretty cheap.  If you want to use a masonry bit that would work too.

A plastic anchor is fine.  I would suggest using solid brass or stainless screws to prevent rusting.
