Removing the paint from exterior walls is very tidious, time consuming and expensive. What if you paint a different coat on the entire wall? http://www.jenniferbuyshouses.com

Hello BStone!

Stripping agents could be used to rewet the paint, but on a porous surface the material would simply smear around and embed further into the surface.

Sand blasting would be your logical choice if you absolutely must remove the paint.

Painting over with a brick color and repainting the mortar lines would be another choice.

NOTE:

Your project is very common. And the solution is tedious at best.

When one of my customers asks about painting brick, I caution that they should be fully committed because reversing the process from painted back to unfinished brick is time and labor intensive.

Very often, you cannot recover the full beauty of brick after it is painted.
