Howdy ShaW77,

For starters let me wish you a warm welcome to the community. This is the place where we get together and exchange ideas, information, as well as questions and answers. So feel free to give your opinion on things you feel inclined to.

Making something as basic as a bench can be fun as well as can say: "I made that", so let's get building. First you will need a few items such as:

2 pieces 3" x 18" x 3/4" hardwood (I used pine)

2 pieces 3" x 14" x 3/4" hardwood

1 piece 16" x 20" x 3/4" plywood

2 pieces 12 1/2" x 20" x 3/4" hardwood

1 piece 18" x 22" x 2" foam

1 piece material 20" x 26" ( I used a Hawaaian pattern but you can use what you like)

1 piece 15" x 12 1/2" x 3/4 hardwood

1 box 1 1/4 wood screws

 4 heavy duty corner braces

 1 staple gun and staples

Additional Tools: Drill, #2 drill bits, and sandpaper (various grits)

Start by screwing together your 14" and 18" hardwood boards in a rectangle. This will be your base of your bench.

Now you can center your foam and using a staple on each corner to hold the position so the overlap is even on all sides.

At this time you'll want to turn the seat over and use the material to cover the foam on the seat and staple in place.

Now stack the two 12 1/2" x 20" x 3/4" legs and cutout the heart shape. Feel free to use whatever shape you like.

Attach the 12 1/2" x 20" x 3/4" to the inside of the rectangle. Make sure the top is even and secure with screws.

Finally secure the top with the metal braces and screw in the bottom shelf with three screws on each side.

Now you have a great little decorative bench that you made. Painting to match your decor is a great way to personalize your bench even more.

Happy Building,
