building a door frame

I'm building a screen enclosure for my patio. what size should I build the door frame to install a 36x80 screen door

Hello jp119 and welcome to the community!

 

Using the graphic below as an overhead view, let's say the "door frame" is actually the 2x4 studs that you will be using to build the screen enclosure. Where ever you want the storm door to be, just use this graphic as a guide. On the exterior side, fasten the brickmoulding to the 2x4's and make sure the space between the 2 red arrows is 36" wide and 80" high from the ground where the door will touching to the underside of the brickmould. You will also need a piece of the same brickmould across the top horizontally. So you will need 2 pieces of brickmould that is 84" long and 1 piece 48" long, I am rounding the amount needed to the nearest foot.

This whole process is the same as if you were measuring for a storm door on your regular front door.
