ceiling fan hums but does not move

Hello, we have a ceiling fan that the light works just fine, but the blades do not turn. You hear a hum noise when you try to change the speed of the fan (from the pull switch) that coincides with the speed that the fan should be turning at. The blades do spin in either direction if pushed by hand. I have also just replace the capacitor and it made no difference. Any helpful ideas? Thanks

Hello spurt19, and welcome to the community!

It sounds like your fan has reached the end of it life. I suggest you contact the fan's manufacture to see if it's still under warranty, make sure when you pull the switch, pull it till the hum stops, this would indicate that the switch is not sending power to the motor.

Thanks, when I pull the switch the pitch of the hum changes with the speed the fan is supposed to be turning at and the hum does stop when the fan switch is pulled to the off position.
