correct hardware???

i have a cast iron post with bell that i would like to attach to my garden gate... what is the correct hardware to use in order to ensure that it is securely attached?? thanks.

Thanks for your question and welcome to the community!

Typically for any post you'd drive into the ground, the sheet depth of burying the post alongside making sure it is driven in firmly should allow you not to use any fasteners at all.

However, if this post will be affixed to the gate w/o driving it into the ground, you can choose between using pipe straps or a conduit hangar (both shown below).

3/4 in. x 25 ft. Galvanized Steel Hanger Strap1-1/4 in. Rigid 2-Hole Conduit Straps (4-Pack)

You may have to use glue or fastener screws that aren't longer than the thickness of the wood, so none of the stick out and injure someone on the other side of the fence.

Make sure everything is exterior grade, and if you wish to paint them, be sure the paint is outdoor rated as well.
