Hello derr2835.  Welcome to the Community!

There are lots of options to choose from.  Stain/sealers come in transparent, semi-transparent and solid colors.  Transparent stains show the most wood grain, and last 2-3 years.  Solid stain conceals grain, but lasts quite a bit longer.

As far as recommending a particular product, I would simply make sure that you use an OIL based stain.  Yes, cleanup is messier, but in this case worth it.  I would not recommend a water based stain for this application.

One other factor that is really important has to do with the fence itself.  The wood must have time to completely dry out before you stain it.  Wait 5 to 7 weeks after installation so the sun can dry the fence.  You want a moisture content of 12% or less.  This can be measured with an inexpensive meter.
