do you need 14/2 wire for a 120 w transformer

do you need 14/2 wire with a 120 w transformer or can you use 16/2?

I'm not quite understanding what you want to do.  If you just need to replace the power cord so you can plug it into a receptacle, then 16/2 would be fine.  If you're "hard wiring" the transformer into you household wiring, then the wire/cable needs to be sized for the circuit it's on.  Generally speaking 15 amp circuits require 14 ga. wire while 20 amp circuits require 12 ga. wire.
