enclosing a room

We have this partial wall built with 2x4 posts and thick panelling.  The wall stops about 14-15" from the ceiling, and we would like to extend it to the celing.  The top of the existing partial wall is also a 2x4.  What is the best way, short of tearing down the wall, to extend it to the celing?  It doesn't have to look great, just presentable.  Thank you.

Hi thebub,

The easiest way to finish the wall is to frame it in with 2x4s and add more paneling to the wall. Hopefully you can match the existing paneling.

If that is not possible, then you might use drywall and paint it or apply wallpaper.

Another idea is to fill the gap with rough sawn wood to give the appearance of a beam.

Finally you could use glass or Lexan plastic panels to create a window effect, and add wood trim around the perimeter.

This would let light travel to and from the room and still close off the room to limit sound travel.

Let us know what you decide to do.
