fastening cement board

How should I fasten cement board to a wood floor without damaging the floor?

The backer board needs a layer of thinset between it and the subfloor.  It's then screwed down using the pattern specified by the manufacturer.  Use the screws for the kind of board you're using.

I missed the part about not damaging the floor.  I'm not quite sure what you mean?  Do you have a finished floor you want to cover with tile?
