framing a basement

I purchased my first home a year ago now and I have gotten my first list of projects knocked out, now I'm going to start on finishing the basement. I have framed before and always used 2x4 now i see that there are 2x3 studs. Just wondering if i should consider these an option. And if i do what do i use for the top and bottom plates? Can you use 2x4 for the plates and 2x3 for the studs?

I am framing 3 walls 2-14' and a 28' I am framing in front of the concrete block no dividing walls.

Thank you very much in advance!

Hello Brandon,

Welcome to the community.

I have a couple of questions for you.

Is the only purpose of the wall to finish the basement walls with drywall?

Are they going to have any weight on them?

Finally do you know if your area has any codes regarding covering the basement walls?

So let me know the answers to these questions and then we can move forward with your project.

Thanks again for joining the community. We are glad you’re here.:smileyhappy:
