Hi JMisner,

Welcome to The Community!!!

Bermuda grass will take a few seasons (years) to become a lawn when you start from seed. I guess that's why sod is so popular. Sod will give instant gratification.

Bermuda will do well in the warmer half of this nation, as long as it receives 6 or more hours of sun per day. Shady yards will not support Bermuda grass.

Fescue grass will tolerate more shade, but will require 3 or more hours of sun to do well. Fescue is best seeded in the fall, since it prefers cold weather to hot. If your lawn is shady, aerate in the fall and apply fescue seed in September.

If you have plenty of sun, apply Bermuda seed this spring and you'll see a decent lawn in a couple of years. For faster results, consider sod.
