how do I insulate my basement ceiling

I have to insulate my basement ceiling before winter what is the best way to do this.  it is all wood.  If u are in the living room u can see into the basment throught the original wood floors

Hello wmp.  Welcome to the Community.

 

Insulating basement ceiling.

 

The type of insulation you would use is faced fiberglass batts or rolls. The thickness will vary depending on the depth of your floor joist and the amount you have budgeted for this project.  In most cases a minimum of a r-19 is use up to a r-30.  I would suggest you contact your local building department to find out if there are any particular guide lines or requirements relating to this type of project. 

 

Save your receipts because there is an energy credit allowed for insulation though December 2013.  See the links below.
