Howdy nsom,

Making a shadow box is a great way to display a prized award or family heirlooms. Here are some tips for making a shadow box. This is just a general list, you can change whatever will suit your project.

1) Use wood with a decent look such as pine, oak, or birch. I like to stain wood instead of paint.

2) Cut both pieces of 48" and 36" wood at the same time to get a perfect rectangle.

3) You can use brass screw to give your box an old world look on the corners.

4) Using some decorative moulding with a150446f-e2cf-443d-8b71-dcb64e5cd534_300.jpg  flat corner braces for the corners.

5) I like to use  57a598a1-4ed7-4e73-9973-99e9ce635062_300.jpgmirror clips to hold the glass/plexiglass.

6) Using a piece of plywood for the back after the box and lid are made is a good idea.
7) To keep things looking classic, use some small brass hinges to attach lid to box.

8) Now that everthing fits it's time to sand and paint/stain. It's better to use multiple thin coats instead of one thick coat.

You can add a handle or lock to keep busy hands off your shadow box contents.

Happy Building,
