You will have to remove the door in order to get an even plane of the edge. Placing them on sturdy saw horses will be the safest method (definitely a two person project).

There is an alternative method that I like to use: Drive a long screw into the side of the door jamb that the door is sticking at.  A door jamb is just a three sided frame that can move just a little in either direction.  In your case just drive the screw until the jamb move inward just a little and then test the door.  Some times you may have to put several in the jamb to achieve the right results.

After the door is properly closing - patch over the sunken screw heads and caulk any opened joints. Touch up or paint thru whole jamb after it has all dried.
