how to make a picture frame look old and like an antique?

Instead of buying really expensive wood picture frames and shelves for my living room, how do i turn cheap ones into beautiful colors, old and antique looking.

Hi there Cassiemb08,

I’m Jen, from The Home Depot.  Welcome to the community.

I love your idea.  I think first, you would need to have real wooden frames, not the laminate type or even metal frames.  One look is to roughly sand the frame to make it look worn and uneven.  Then brush on an aqua paint very sparingly in a few spots and rub it lightly with a cloth.  This will give it an old antique look.  Or, you can do this in reverse.  Paint the entire frame your color of choice and then use sand paper or steel wool to create a distressed look.  The previous color will show through.  You can have fun with it buy using a white primer or black underneath.

Another thought is to, sand the wood and use crackle paint in silver or gold to make it look worn.
