Hello roomie and welcome to The Community!

Sorry to hear about the smudge marks on the beautiful Hampton Bay High Gloss Hawaiian Koa Cherry Laminate Flooring.  Several methods to try are recommended by the manufacturer.  You will need to use a damp cloth mop to remove spots and soil. Apply appropriate cleaning solution (listed below) to the cleaning cloth or mop first. Do NOT apply the cleaning product directly to the floor. If possible, first test in an inconspicuous area for potential adverse side effects.

* Lightly soiled areas can be cleaned with distilled water.

* For a moderately soiled area, use a mild solution of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. Isopropyl alcohol (commonly known as rubbing alcohol and is sold in 50% to 70% concentrations) should be diluted by mixing one part alcohol and two parts distilled water.

* For tougher spots, use a higher concentration of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water.

* In extreme cases, a solution of nail polish remover and distilled water can be used.

Take special note:

* Do NOT use a steam cleaner.

* Do NOT use a wet mop or douse floor with water or liquid cleaners.

* When cleaning floors on a regular basis, be sure the cleaner states “for use on laminate floors” on the product labeling.

Best wishes on your project and please keep us posted on your progress.

Does the manfacturer suggest any specific cleaners on a regular basis to keep the floor shiny and smudge free? There are a LOT of cleaners that say for Laminate Floors. Also, what about vinegar and water? And does it need soapy water on a damp spunge. I've read so much about Laminate floors and so many different answers.

Hello again roomie.  I want to help you keeping your new floor beautiful for a long time.

The manufacturer does not recommend a specific cleaner.  They do suggest that you try a laminate cleaner in an inconspicuous area first and closely follow the manufacturer’s instructions for best results.

A vinegar and water solution is not recommended as a cleaning agent since the vinegar is acidic which may cause damage to the finish.

When using a damp sponge, it should have the water practically squeezed out of it before use.  Since the laminate joints are not sealed, any excess moisture that is applied to the surface could find its way into the core of the laminate flooring, which will cause swelling then the plank could swell.

There are additional floor care instructions that will help you take care of your investment for many years.  Best wishes on a long lasting beautiful floor.
