how to resurface a table?

I have a black table that has a significant amount of scratches.  I would love to resurface it but don't have any ideas on what to use?  Also, would like information with covering the chairs with fabric???????

First home and want to use some of the furniture I have from my apartment!!!

Lightly sanding the top and painting it with an oil-based black paint will dramatically change the appearance.  The oil-based paint is very durable and will withstand all the use that a table gets. You need to choose either satin, semi-gloss, or gloss for a shine.

Most chair cushions are just fabric wrapped over a foam base and stapled to the underside of the seat.  You will want to remove the seat from the chair before attempting a fabric renew project.  Most chair seats are attached to the chair frame with screws located underneath. Just flip the chair over and remove them with a screw gun.
