Black and white are completely neutral and compatible with  virtually any color. They are in themselves technically not actually colors, but the reflection or absorbtion of all colors.

You might consider not actually introducing color at all, at least in the walls, but remain with a stark black/white motif, perhaps augmented by  accent color(s) in the accessories, such as throw pillows, or painted picture frames, etc.

Just a couple thoughts.

Hello Brenda53!

Gotta love the simplicity of Ordjen's recommendations ... using accent pieces to create the color offers you outstanding and endless options.

Historically, neutrals were thought of as off-white and tan, but the "new neutrals" are gray.

Grays and blues tend to be "cool" colors that calm.

Reds and yellows tend to be "warm" colors that activate.

Follow Ordjen's decor recommendations and if you still want more, add a splash of either warm or cool color depending upon the mood you want that room to emote.

I love the new grays.

They give you options that lean toward blue (cool gray) as well as others that lean toward red (warm gray).

Try a half-pint sample or two and I bet you'll find the perfect color.
