Both interior and exterior brick may be painted with quality acrylic housepaint, interior or exterior as appropriate. It is well advised to use a good latex primer , such as Kilz 2, if going over bare brick. Application can be by brush, roller or spraying. However, most bricks have recessed mortar joints and a lot of texture, so "backbrushing" is often neccessary to get the primer and paint down into the "nooks and crannies" of the brick and mortar.

If the brick has already been painted with a flat or low sheen paint and is in good condition, a primer is not particularly needed. It may simply be painted with a quality paint after proper cleaning and preparation. Minor bared brick can be spot primed.

Hope this has helped.
