pigmanmn,

Conventional insulation intended to lessen heat ransfer, does little to to attenuate noise. Owens Corning does make its 703 high density fiberglass batts for sound deadening.

Conventional drywall fastened directly to joists also does little to stop noise. The vibrations are passed right on through the joists to the drywall. To lessen this affect, there are sound rails which fasten crosswise to the joists to which the drywall is then mounted. This decouples the vibrations from being passed through.

There is also sound deadening drywall on the market which also acts to deaden vibrations from being passed through.

There are many sound deadening products listed on the Home Depot Website. Just type in "sound insulation" in the search bar.

Hope this helps./
