replacing bulb on touch lamp

After 20 yrs one of the bulbs on my 3-way tourch lamp has burned out.  When the bulb burned out the lamp would no longer respond to touch, I had to unplug it to turn it off.  I replaced the bulb, but the lamp still won't turn off.  Does the bulb burning out mean the lamp is dead or should I be able to replace the bulb?      My lamp looks very much like:

Hi Grie,

I would say that after 20 years of faithful service your lamp needs to be retired.

These lamps have what are known as thyristors. A thyristor is an electrical component designed to respond to electrical signals. Most of these lamps have more than one.

Power surges are the most common cause for a thyristor failure, and in your case age may be the primary cause.

In either case fixing the lamp will be difficult due to its age, as parts usually are not available.
