Hello Angelsal07,

That is a perfect rough opening for 30" exterior door.

The net frame size for a 30" exterior door is 31 1/2" x 81 1/2" so it leaves 1/2" on the top and both sides for your shims.

So as you can see it would be an ideal size for your opening.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I owuld love to help.

Is that a pre hung door or just the door it self?

Those measurements are for a pre-hung unit.

A 30" slab door is normally just under 30" x 80".

Rough opening for a 60" prehung double door

Posted 2013-08-07T17:54:34+0000  by gui

Hello Gui,

Welcome to the community.

If I were going to frame the rough opening for a 60” double door I would frame it at 62 ½” x 82”. That’s only if I didn’t know the manufacture of the door yet.

Each manufacture can be a little bit different so it’s always best to double check with them what their RO would be for a 60” double door.

The rule of thumb to figure out what the rough opening for an interior door is to measure the actual door and then add 2” inches to the width and the height. Double doors I add an additional ½” to the width.

So if you have a 32” x 80” door the rough opening would be 34” x 82”.

This is only a rule of thumb so I would suggest asking what the actual frame dimensions are for the manufacture that you’re getting the door from.

Here are a couple of examples from our vendor’s websites for an interior 60” double door unit.

Masonite Doors

  Double Door - Unit Size 62.125" x 81.5"    Rough Opening 62.625" x 82"

Feather River Doors

Without T-astragal

Nominal

Door Width

2'6" - 2'6"

Nominal

Door Height

6'8"

Prehung Unit Size

61 1/2"x81 5/8"

Rough Opening

62"x82"

With T-astragal

Nominal

Door Width

2'6" - 2'6"

Nominal

Door Height

6'8"

Prehung Unit Size

62"x81 5/8"

Rough Opening

62 1/2"x82"

So as you can see each manufacture may be different. So it’s always a good idea to double check with the manufacture that you’re going with.

Please let me know if you have any other questions. I would love to help.
