sink water shut off valves

i  bought  some 1/4   turn  shutoff valves. they  are 1/2  inch female  valves that  are to be screwed into   a  nipple in the wall.   do  i   use  teflon tape on  the nipple  and install the  valve  onto that.   will it  help it from leaking or  just  screw  the  valve onto  the nipple.

Yes, use Teflon tape (or pipe dope) on the threads where the valve screws into the wall nipples.  That connection is ordinary pipe thread and needs something to keep it from leaking.  You don't have to do anything between the valve and the connection to the supply lines for the faucet itself.
