Install & Replace

skylight

Hello, the guy who installed my skylight left two areas of exposed wood. I'm not an expert, but I'm thinking exposed wood on the roof is not good. Would you mind taking a look at the attached photo and letting me know?
THANKS.

Hi Rachel1981.  Welcome to the Community!

Normally I would also be concerned about exposed bare wood like that too.  Did your installer paint any part of this skylight, and just miss the bottom?

This appears to be a manufactured skylight, (as opposed to home made).  As such the mfr would at least prime, if not finish any bare kiln-dried wood for this application.  No one expects to have to paint the exposed frame edges on something going up on a roof, so I think that you are looking at pressure treated wood.  Since that frame will not be immersed in water, bare pressure treated wood will last for decades in that application.  I would not be concerned about it.

Chris.
