Hi superman407,

Thank you for your question and welcome to our community.  One of the things you will want to remember is that solar power cells make DC (Direct Current) electricity.  Air Conditioners run on AC (Alternating Current).  This means that in addition to your solar panels, you will need to have and inverter to convert the DC power to AC current.

The smaller air conditioning unit (5000-8000 BTU's) usually runs on 110-115 volts, which equals about 500 watts. You can purchase a Grape Solar 250-Watt Monocrystalline Soar panel from The Home Depot online.  Prices can vary by location.  Two of those solar panels plus an inverter will get the job done, providing the solar panels are always facing directly at the sun.  To take full advantage of the available sunlight, you will want to have your solar panels on a motorized rotating device, to keep them pointed directly at the sun all day long.

The Home Depot online services carries a “Phono Solar 1800-Watt Solar Generator" that includes the solar panel, the solar charge controller, battery storage as well as the cables needed.  Sometimes getting the package can be less expensive.

With a little investigating, you should be able to put together a rotating solar grid that will run your AC unit.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.  This has been another of,
