updating kitchen ceramic tile

Hi,

I am updating my kitchen cabinets and counters. I plan to use the Rust-o-leum product line for both projects. My question is can I use the rustoleum on my ceramic kitchen counter top, and am I able to replace the edging around my counter top? This is my first time doing this and I'm trying to get as much info as I can before starting this project. I am uploading a couple of pic for you to view and hopefully you can answer my questions. Thank you so much in advance.

Hello karen0122,

Glad you came to The Community with your DIY project!

I'm afraid the news isn't going to match your expectation though.

I contacted Roberta at Rust-Oleum Technical Support to verify the answer to your question.

She confirmed my expectation ... neither Rust-Oleum Specialty Countertop Coating nor Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations is suitable for application over ceramic tile.

I'd suggest you consult your local Kitchen and Bath Associate for suggestions.

It may be possible to budget new Formica countertops to improve the appearance.

Or you might remove the existing tile and replace with a style and color of tile that is more suitable for your decor.

And the installation is certainly within the ability of many DIYers.
