Hey skydivecrazy.

Hand held spreaders do not give you the control that push broadcast spreaders give you. The only variable that push spreaders have is the walking speed, therefore there is good control with them. Handheld spreaders are better than throwing fertilizer out by hand but people tend to spread fertilizer with hand helds side to side while walking forward. This action, walking speed and height all play a factor, therefore put it on a mid setting and walk at normal speed. Cover the size area that the bag is stated for and if there is some left over in the bag then it never hurts to walk it again.

Hello skydivercrazy and welcome to the Community.

I contacted the manufacture of Vigoro Texas Turf and they did not have an exact setting recommendation.  They suggested doing a test spread.  Here is the method to test.

Set the Scotts wizz spreader on a low setting.

Put enough of the Texas Turf Fertilizer in the spreader to cover 1000 sq. ft.

Spread it over an area of 20’ x 50’ = 1000 sq. ft.

If you still have fertilizer in the spreader you should dial it up.

Thank you for your inquiry.
