what if there is no stud to attach a rod to in the closet?

IF THERE IS NO STUD IN ONE SIDE OF THE CLOSET TO ATTACH A CLOTHES ROD TO, HOW DO I SECURE IT SO WHEN I PUT CLOTHES ON IT, IT WILL NOT FALL OR PULL OUT OF THE WALL.

There are hollow wall anchors available, BUT if you are in a wall of 1/2" drywall and the weight of clothes will build up fast, I wouldn't do it that way.  I would consider buying/installing a piece of lumber 3/4" and cut to your closet depth.  Paint it the wall color and attach this board to your wall surface horizontally via screws into what studs you have and (optional)construction glue applied with a caulking gun.  This will allow you to fasten the end of the rod to the new wooden support.
