The hardest and most durable paint for a surface that is going to get frequent and hard traffic would be Glidden's Gloss Oil Urethane Porch and Floor Paint. It can be tinted to any of the colors on the Glidden palette of colors, or even custom matched. Its hard, gloss surface makes it highly scuff resistant and easy to wipe clean.

Somewhat easier to apply, with less odor and faster drying  , is either Glidden or Behr Acrylic Porch and Floor paint.

Again, both can be tinted to almost unlimited colors.

Hope this has helped.

Gotta Love Great Products helena!

The key to selecting paint for stairs is ensuring the product is intended for walking surfaces and is suitable for wood.

The products Ordjen recommends absolutely meet these requirements.

I particularly like his oil-based recommendation ... very durable.

Behr also offers Porch and Floor paint in a spectrum of colors.

However, should you choose Behr, make certain to use a "Floor Primer" like Behr #436 as your first coat.

Not just any primer will withstand foot traffic ... sooner than expected, wall primers will fail and your floor will have to be sanded down to the wood and recoated.
