what is the best way to re-stain the patio considering the striping is darker than the rest of patio

We would like to re-stain our patio but the 1/2" striping is a darker color than the rest of the patio.

1. We can't find a 1/2" roller.

2. Do we tape the stripes first and stain the whole patio and come back a stain the stripes after or visa/versa?

Thanks,

Sandy&Mark

Hello Sandy and Mark!

Thanks for joining The Community!

Your idea is right on!

1) Tape over the stripe;

2) Stain the patio everywhere EXCEPT the stripe;

3) Allow the surface to dry six-hours;

4) Stain again if a second coat is required and allow to dry six-hours;

5) Remove tape;

6) Tape both sides of the stripe;

7) Stain stripe and allow to dry six-hours;

8) Stain stripe again if a second coat is required and allow to dry six-hours; and

9) Remove the tape and enjoy your fresh, clean patio.

NOTE:

Higher quality tape, like Frog Tape, is an outstanding choice. It contains PaintBlock which will prevent most bleed through.

The best tape is worth the difference!

It will save you considerable time and prevent the frustration of having to redo your lines.
