what kind of paint do you use on a aluminum / galvanized mobile home exterior

i'm trying to determine the type of paint to use on a aluminum / galvanized mobile trailer home exterior. Between enamel, semi-gloss gloss, satin finish or what other paints may be best. does it have to be primered and what about rust spots

Hello cashmosldr1!

Aluminum and galvanized metal is relatively simple to coat ... using the following steps:

1) Remove flake until the remaining paint is fully adhered, then buff sand the surface with 220-grit;

2) Use Phosphoric Etcher to remove the white power and prep the aluminum for primer;

3) Prime with Rust-Oleum Clean Metal Primer ... an oil-based interior/exterior primer designed for aluminum; and

4) Paint with Rust-Oleum oil-based paint in your color and sheen of choice.

These steps will prep the aluminum and glavanized metal to create a long-lasting finish.

In an earlier thread on the same topic, Community Member Ordjen said he likes Rust-Oleum Self-etching Primer is their Professional Products line. If your surfaces are clean and free of flake, this product both etches and primes in one step.
