what's the best way to position recessed lighting box to 2x8 joists?

Thanks for your question and welcome to the community!


As long you have a new construction and NOT a remodeling recessed light housing, you'd essentially center it as much as possible with the exposed joists. The housing itself slides to the hanger bars shown on the fixture below.

There's really no exact science to this; just make sure all the housings that you use are consistently aligned and they are fastened secured into the joists.
