window insulation

Our windows let in a lot of cold air and we have tried window insulation kits but we cannot get any of the tape  to the walls. Not double sided, not duct, nothing. What can we do?

Hi Dex19

There's nothing worse than a draft in the winter!

Both FrostKing and 3M window insulation kits are designed to be used indoors.

They both include double-stick tape and the plastic barrier as well as install instructions.

If none of these will work, you might use weather stripping along the edge of window-size Plexiglas and attach both to the window frame using mirror anchors.

HOW TO:
1) Plexiglas should be cut one-half inch larger than inside-frame or sash size;
2) Weather stripping is attached to the outer half-inch edge of Plexiglas; and
3) Mirror anchors are screwed into window frame and tightened until weather stripping compresses.

NOTE:
You will need to substitute self-tapping sheet metal screws if your window frame is metal.

And, drilling a pilot hole will help prevent splitting wood window frames.

Hello Dex19 and welcome to the Community.

Most tapes do not work well when you try to stick them to cold surfaces.  If it is possible to warm up the surface you are trying to apply the tape to first that may help.  Also if you slightly warm up the tape with something like a hair drier to activate the adhesive.

Make sure the surface is clean,dry and free of dust.

Thanks for your inquiry.
