Hello Smsj5!

Traditional wrought iron was most commonly painted black.

The sheen might vary between flat, satin, semi-gloss, or gloss.

But from the factory, many were flat ... allowing contractors to add sheen before install.

Today, you'll find that color vary from bronze to white to black.

Before you paint your wrought iron, make certain to knock off any rust with a stiff-bristle wire brush and sand paper.

Prime with metal primer in a color similar to your final coat ... prime with gray if painting black or white if painting white.

Then apply two or three layers of paint in the color and sheen of your choice.

If your wrought iron is to be black gloss, prime with Rust-Oleum Gray Metal Primer and paint with Rust-Oleum Gloss Black.

Allow one-hour dry-time per coat of primer and one-to-two hour dry time per coat of paint.
