Hey sciubbalargo, that is a good question, the process is very similar to doing drywall. Once you have your backerboard mortered and screwed into the sub-floor, you will want to fill in the seams with the same mortar you are using for your tiling project, then tape the seam with some fiberglass tape designed for backerboard (drywall type wont stand up to mortar over time).
Once the joint is taped, apply another thin coat of mortar over the seam to cover and bond the tape, (it doesn't need to be completely flat) then feather the edges with your trowel.
